a dream for all

I have chosen a very memorable and beautiful song (by which I cannot stop singing) that almost reveals to listeners the absolute joy and peacefulness of the situation. The song will stick with you, believe me. "Pure Imagination" is a song most people remember from the movie, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. The song creeps into your mind right when two big charcoal covered doors that tower over one's head open up and a group of dysfunctional and wide eyed women, men and children appear. The words of the song come upon listeners as pure bliss. "take a look and you'll see into your imagination," is a line of the song that sticks out to me. In the scene, children are absolutely in shock at what they've been revealed to and it is so different and so unusual that they are experiencing something they'd only have caught eye of in a dream. The entire song reveals a picture that opens up your entire mind; there are also long pauses throughout the song which give listeners this opportunity to think of their wildest dreams, to almost just sit in the scene of paradise for a few seconds. "wanna change the world? there's nothing to it..." is another line in the song that broadens one's view of the painting the lyrics are trying to illustrate. Overall, I believe that the song is creating a marvelous and desirable picture in the mind of listeners. It is a slow, steady and peaceful song that reminds me of heaven or a soft and gentle dream, maybe one you had as a child. The video of the song portrays my imagination very well, and uses the words like "paradise" and "imagination" to show glamorous shots of candy covered grass and peppermint tree trunks. On the other hand, the ad created by AT&T reveals a man sitting on a bench, maybe late twenties to early thirties, holding a brand new piece of electronics. This small piece of eye candy for the man brings him to a place of pure bliss and he is found with a smile on his face. The lyrics illustrate this picture of happiness, as well as the reaction of the man. The song fits well with he entire advertisement, as hand drawn creatures such as birds or fish float around the scene. It takes you back to the feeling of being an innocent and joyful child, always finding your paradise and always experiencing the joy that the children sought in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory and that the man discovered. These two illustrations of the lyrics lead me to believe that the song is aimed at an image of one's dream. For example, the song was played when children were revealed to a land of candy and the song played when the business man received the phone. The lyrics are not directed at any set age or group of people, it is for all ages, and all dreams.

in a world of pure imagination

The song I have chosen is "Pure Imagination"  by Gene Wilder in the movie Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. I would like to make clear arguments on what the music video is specifically illustrating while comparing and contrasting this video with an AT&T commercial.

the great and incredible Gatsby

The Great Gatsby uses a mix of today’s music and music from the 1920’s to reveal a brighter, bigger and newer picture to viewers and listeners. The soundtrack of The Great Gatsby involves artists like Beyonce, Andre 3000, Lana Del Ray, Florence & the Machine, Fergie and Will.I.Am. These very talented artists are known for their incredible voices in today’s time. The freshness of these songs creates a new atmosphere that creates a relationship with adults and teenagers in this time. Teenagers are so wrapped up in music and divulge themselves into the new thing and the new music on the radio is these very popular artists. I know that I love Beyonce; therefore if she was singing a new song or remaking the song with a cool new tone to it, then I would more than likely go see this film. Producers use the tactic of new and fun music to pull in different ages, whilst keeping original and classic music that adults and teenagers of all ages will enjoy as well!
The mood of the music alternates very quickly depending on scene and the music played alongside of it. I believe that music makes the scenes in movies. A funeral wouldn’t be as emotional without a depressing song playing in the background, and a joyful moment of success or personal gain wouldn’t send those emotions towards you without a fun tune to play alongside the great time. The song “A Little Party Never Killed Nobody” is a great song to jump around to because it is filled with the beautiful voice of Fergie and a high tempo that is just filled with energy. This song created for the movie and created fairly recently, changes the mood of the movie in a way. It differs from the previous Great Gatsby because it puts a spin on the party scene. There is so much more than your mind can comprehend, and in the previous movie I, myself, did not feel that way. The remake of a 1920’s party in 2013 was extraordinary and absolutely unbelievable. The music provides a lot of the emotion you feel watching it. It opens your eyes to see the difference.
I thought the music fit wonderfully with the movie. It provided a great spin on the 1920’s scene with a little bit of the present tense. The song “Crazy in Love” is originally by Beyonce, but is recreated through the voice of another woman. This spin links the past to the present, and I was thrilled when I heard the song because of not only my love for Beyonce, but also for the wonderful surprise of a much older song being brought back into a film premiered in 2013. Overall, the producers made a wise choice when they mixed together classic music with brand new music. Fergie and Lana Del Ray create music that is broader and bigger in your mind and reveals a little bit of what our day in time looks like while connecting it to the wonderful and stunning parties of the 1920’s.

the elimination of procrastination

I really appreciated this way of writing; I also think I told every person I ran into how helpful it was to have canvas and to be required to turn in my work so far. It pushed me to work, because I am definitely one to procrastinate. I enjoyed being in that position and to know that if I didn’t work at it, I would receive the consequences. I enjoyed learning the methods of writing. I liked reading about “The Method” and “So What?” as well as “Paraphrase x3”. The Method helped me analyze my information, sometimes I can just let words and pictures run together and not dig any deeper to find the meaning to things, but using the method made me study the ad and evaluate the situation. I really liked the approach we took with the advertisement route. That was fun, and made it less boring! I think my favorite was Paraphrase x3; I liked working in our groups with that. I like using the thesaurus and so looking up words and exchanging them with others was fun for me. I like for the paper to sound smooth and to have a sense of easiness to it so the paraphrasing was something I enjoyed. Who knew you could break down one single sentence to that extent? Without all of these ideas, methods and mandatory obligations, I do not think I would’ve started my paper until a week before as bad as that sounds. Honestly, in the beginning I like to start off strong and I will write down a few ideas and maybe find myself on Google searching the topic of my paper but then I fall behind thinking I have more time than I really do. I liked this process a lot, I think it will continue to push me and help me in the future!
